Saving Money and Saving Lives: Wardrobe overhaul and conscious shopping. (Contains graphic images)

I've always like classic pieces and looks that were a bit minimal. The Breton Stripe top for me is a Holy Grail piece. However, I often find my self seduced by that cute dress, catchy top or crazy printed leggings. These usually end up being a waste of money- getting stuffed somewhere in the back of my closet, never worn.

Not only is it a waste of money, but I'm also sick of how simply I pick up these items, at for instance H&M, just because they are fun and cheap. The images of the couple crushed in the Bangladesh factory collapse keep haunting me whenever I'm shopping.

So, to save money and lives I've made some rules for myself and took some drastic measures.

First: I sorted out my closet. All things I hadn't worn for the past year if ever I donated to charity. Clothes that we're to young looking for someone that is 26 got donated as well. No, not the H&M "I just want to buy more clothes here"-charity but a proper one.

Second: I will slowly build up a work-wardrobe. Classic, professional looking pieces that I don't need to many of to look good every day with outfits such as you can see below. These will be quality pieces that will last a few years. This might mean I have to spent more money at first, but will save me money in the long run.

Third: I will only buy things that I know I will definitely wear. I don't know how long I will do this for though. I've been trying for a while already and so far it has only resulted in me buying loads of Breton Striped tops. Maybe I've been shopping too consciously lately, but this will probably fade over time :)

Last: I want to buy clothes that were made more responsibly, so to speak. I've been searching the Internet to find brands that suit, but so far I've come across brands that make clothes I don't like or brands that are named as responsible on one website but not so much on another. And of course the prices need some getting used to, too!

Here's a few good site's I've found so far:

 http://www.alternativeapparel.com
For great basics.

 http://www.americanapparel.net/
Never realised they were so socially conscious!

http://www.edun.com/
A bit on the expensive side, but great concept!!

 www.junoandjove.com
A site that sells several brands that are often organic, vegan, and locally sourced and produced.
