9 trends that are worth investing in this year!

Make smart investments this year; buy originals and follow these trends, because they're here to stay...

When you are on a budget, but want to dress fashionably nonetheless you need to buy smart! One sure way to make a good investment is to buy "the Original"- the product as it was first made or as it first became popular. A good example is the Trenchcoat as it was first designed for British World War I soldiers or the Breton stripe, see below.

On the plus side, whenever a derivative of the original is a trend you can never go wrong wearing the item as it was intended. However, originals might be hard to find or are very expensive. Nevertheless, they are IMHO the best investments you can make.

Another way to spend your money cautiously is to try to predict what trends will last for more than one season. A good way make an educated guess which trends are likely to stick around for a while is to look at street style blogs. These blogs form an inspiration for designers and buyers alike and this reinforces the strength or "staying power" of a trend.

Off course we had a good look around for you guys and here are 9 current trends that will last and are worth investing in:

Minimalism: This is a modest way to show you've still got it all together in these financially trying times. This trend also holds for beauty with nude make-up and no mascara being an important look on the catwalk the past few seasons.

Cropped Trousers: These will make you look professional and on trend! Also very suitable for the shorter girl, for it seems they make your legs appear to be longer, because your pants are too short, although I'm not totally convinced it works that way.

Stripes: Fashionable this year in almost every form and size. Mind this, it is a common misconception that vertical stripes are slimming, read a nice little article here.

Sneakers: Embraced by teenagers, American tourists and Asian girls, but still snubbed by European women. This is about to change with the sneakers that will be on offer coming seasons. Check New Balance, Nike or if your not sure try cheap H&M ones first.

"Pastels and Frosties": Pastels have been around for a while and seem to stay for a little longer. Frosties or Laduree colours (pastels that seem to be covered by a layer of icing) are up and coming and IMHO even hotter than pastels.

The Orient: With China as an up and coming world power there is ample reason to show some interest in the region. China and Japan both have a rich cultural history to get wardrobe inspiration from. Furthermore, the countries produce many interesting new designers each year that have the potential to become household names. There will be a post on that soon!

The Pencil Skirt: This item is always good for a sexy professional look, but is easily combined with other styles to make a wide range of uber-fashionable looks!

The Bomber Jacket: Not only good for teenagers, but when combined with a pencil skirt or cropped trousers it makes for a playful, don't mess with me look. The Bomber comes many different styles this summer, covered in patterns or made from lace.

Volume: This trend has been silently present for years, but is becoming more and more widespread. It's comfortable and fits in perfectly with the New Minimalism trend, so especially the voluminous coat is definitely here to stay.

So here they are the 9 trends that are worth investing in. Happy shopping!!!
