Normcore ain't Normcore no more

"Normcore" is not what we call Normcore, but actually Acting Basic is Normcore... Huh?

My last post was on the then new trend called Normcore. Soon after (and not because of my article) the world went Normcore crazy, until it drove everyone crazy. Now, it truns out, Normcore is't even the name of this trend we're pursuing. We should actually call it Acting Basic. (Don't know what "Normcore" is, read this first.)

NY magazine which brought the trend to our attention first apparently mixed up the terms Normcore and Acting Basic in their article and everyone just took it from there. -Yes, I'm guilty as is Vogue, which makes me feel a bit better

Anyway, let's put things right. Here are the defenitions as they should be.

Normcore: the idea that an individual adapts to a situation at hand and embraces the normalcy of where they are and who they're with. In simple terms: When you're at a football match you wear replica jersey like all the rest and when you head to a death metal concert you pull out the eyeliner and anything with a skull on it. No matter whether you understand the rules of game or like the music, you make sure you at least look like you do.

Acting Basic: dressing with forced neutrality in order to avoid standing out. Which basicly is just what we now all think is Normcore, see the picture below and you know.

But you now what. I thing what Normcore is supposed to be, is just what you call "acting the part". It doesn't need to have another term and Acting Basic just sounds even more boring then the way it prescribes you to dress. Why not just stick to Normcore to describe embracing normality?

So Normcore, to me at least, is still Normcore. -Are you still following me here? ;)
